1978: Graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Held various positions with the Ministry and its foreign missions.
2002 – 2004: Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
2004 – 2011: Director of the Department of Security and Disarmament, member of the Russian Foreign Ministry Board.
2011 – 2016: Deputy Minister of Defence.
2016 – 2017: Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. Responsible for general issues of military and political security.
On August 21, 2017 Vladimir Putin issued an Executive Order appointing Anatoly Antonov Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and, concurrently, Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation at the Organisation of American States in Washington, USA.
PhD in Political Science.
Holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, assigned July 2007.
