On Russian Humanitarian Assistance to Syria
This year 9 special flights of the Russian EMERCOM YAK-42, IL-62 and IL-76 have been carried out. They delivered to Syria more than 115 tons of humanitarian aid and brought out 626 people who wanted to leave the armed conflict zone.
Russian humanitarian aid has been also delivered to Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan. The Russian EMERCOM sent 4 IL-76 aircraft to Beirut (Lebanon) carrying about 150 tons of vital assistance cargo, as well as 3 IL-76 aircraft to Amman (Jordan) carried more than 111 tons of humanitarian aid. Humanitarian cargo included mobile power stations, blankets, canned food, tableware, household goods, rice, sugar, baby food.
Two Russian EMERCOM aircraft IL-76 landed in Latakia (Syria) delivering more than 70 tons of humanitarian aid to Palestinian refugees in Syrian.
Russia continues to work through multilateral channels in collaboration with specialized international organizations. The Russian Federation contributed a total of 10 million dollars to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Russian donor contribution of 3 million dollars to the United Nations World Food Programme is being used to deliver 715,95 tons of canned fish to Syria by sea.
The total volume of Russian assistance provided to Syria on a bilateral or a multilateral basis in various forms amounts to 20 million dollars.
