Comment by the Information and Press Department on the return of Russian archive documents from the United States

March 4, 2016

We are grateful to the United States for helping us locate and return to Russia 28 unique documents, stolen from Russian archives in the 1990s and smuggled to the United States. The documents, which returned on March 3, include original decrees by eight Russian emperors and other relics.
We would like to note that a positive result was achieved due to many years of joint efforts involving both countries’ specialised departments and law enforcement agencies. We hope that this experience of depoliticised hands-on cooperation will prove useful in many other areas of Russian-US relations, which have been undermined by the US administration’s sanctions policy over the past two years.
