Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova on new US sanctions against Russian companies

March 25, 2017

The decision taken by the US administration to impose sanctions against several Russian companies, including companies involved in aircraft manufacturing and aviation personnel training, is baffling and disappointing. This new series of restrictions will not create serious problems for the companies concerned. However, it is surprising that our American partners have not even provided a reason for these sanctions, but have only cited US legislation, under which the United States itself is not allowed to cooperate with Iran or Syria.
This decision conflicts with statements made in Washington on the priority of combating terrorism, including in Syria. Moreover, it fully contradicts them and will hinder the development of multilateral cooperation towards defeating ISIS and other terrorist groups, which threaten all countries, including the United States.
The US presidential administration has again taken its cue from those whose perennial goal is to undermine Russian-American cooperation and who see enemies where there are none. This policy will certainly not benefit US security interests.
