On February 20, the Russian Embassy in Washington, DC hosted a reception on the occasion of the upcoming tour of the Bolshoi Theatre in the United States. The event was attended by Mr. Anatoly Iksanov, Director General of the Bolshoi, and Russian ballet stars – S.Zakharova, A.Merkuryev, E.Shipulina, A.Voituk, E.Krisanova, N.Osipova, I.Vasilyev, M.Alexandrova, D.Matvienko. The American guests included eminent artists, representatives of political and business elites.

 

In his welcoming remarks, Russian Ambassador Yuri V. Ushakov pointed out that the performance of the famous ballet company was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Russia-U.S. diplomatic relations and said that it was very symbolic. During the Cold War, it was the Bolshoi’s legendary tours that helped Americans discover Soviet and Russian art. It was noted that performances by the outstanding masters Russian ballet school continue to make a significant contribution to the promotion of our bilateral cooperation now, helping bring together our nations closer together.
