On Russian-American Partnership
On February 20, US State Department hosted a round table “Russian American partnership in space: yesterday, today and tomorrow” dedicated to 200th anniversary of the Russian-American diplomatic relations. The seminar was attended by Russian academician, Professor of Maryland University R.Sagdeev, a former US Ambassador to Russia T.Pickering, an outstanding nuclear physicist R.Garvin.
In his welcoming speech Russian Ambassador Yuri Ushakov noted that an advanced experience in space should be intensively “landed”, practically implemented in cooperation of our countries in different directions. It was outlined that thanks to Russian and American contribution a project of construction of the International Space Station is being successfully carried out — scientific orbital laboratory, opening new horizons for discovery of outer space.
Claudia A. McMurray, Assistant Secretary for International Environmental and Scientific Affairs marked that the Unites States is interested in continuing of mutually beneficial space cooperation, including implementation of joint space projects. She expressed appreciation to the Russian partners for the help and assistance provided to NASA after the crash of shuttle “Columbia”.
The seminar was held in a positive atmosphere and reflected the mood of the both sides to mark the bicentennial anniversary.
